
Start the New Year out by making an effort to introduce yourself the right way whether this is in a business or school setting. Practice looking at someone else and making eye contact and not looking away. Try and remember their name.
Speak with your employer about bringing a customized etiquette class to your workplace for fall.
Have a date night out on July 28 while your child attends an etiquette class at the Farm Stand Restaurant in the evening.
Sign your child up for a morning of manners and play at Scooter's Jungle in El Segundo. Registration is currently taking place for kids ages 5-10.
Ask your children to set the table for you. If they don't know how to set the table, take the time to show them. Most kids have the basic table setting reversed when they practice it themselves.
Ask your child to pick some flowers from your backyard to make your dinner table look festive and beautiful.
With Easter and Passover approaching it is a good time to review expectations of a family gathering. Don't expect that young children will sit patiently for more than an hour at a meal. Engage the children after the meal as a reward for sitting well. For example for Easter hide eggs that are not only stuffed with a little candy but also with a math problem you write on a flash card and fold inside. This way they have fun and learn at the same time.
February is a contest month for a free etiquette class...Please submit some funny ideas for the February entry and 1 winner will be selected!
Start the New Year out right for your children at dinner time. Together, set some realistic goals for the year. For example:
-We will try for more family dinners. Ask the kids how they would like to be involved. Kids appreciate the notion more if they can give some input. This could be anything from helping to choose new items to cook to helping to set or clear the table.
We all have a million things more to do in December than the other months of the year whether we celebrate Hanukah, Christmas or Kwanza.
